Interlaken offers a ski vacation of international acclaim. As the gateway to the Bernese Oberland region of the Swiss Alps, Interlaken has been an important hub for centuries. It’s also the perfect place to base your Jungfrau Top Ski vacation out of. As the home several world-famous peaks: Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, Interlaken experience year-round crowds, so you’re guaranteed a wide variety of off-mountain activities and services to enjoy. While the ski areas has received many modern improvements, the entire region still maintains its well-loved Old World charm, which will please those in search of the Alps renowned quaintness, among them is the 100-year-old cogwheel train that transports skiers and boarders to the top of Jungfrau. The cogwheel train runs from Interlaken, all the way to the top of the “Jungfraujoch” and is Europe’s highest railway stations. A ride on the cogwheel train is also a great day activity for non-skiers, as they too, can enjoy the dramatic, high Alpine scenery.
The “Top Ski” lift ticket accesses Grindelwald, Mürren and Wengen, and makes for one of the worlds most sophisticated and extensive interconnected lift systems in Europe. You are assured of a most memorable holiday on an Interlaken ski vacation.
With pistes above 8,000 feet, skiers and boarders can enjoy Interlaken skiing year-round. Beginners will best enjoy Wengen’s variety of “learn to ski” zones and gentle slopes. Intermediates have an unbeatable selection of terrain at all three resorts. Experts will find that Wengen and Murren offer more challenging off-piste runs and groomed steeps. Wengen and Murren are home to two of the world’s longest—and most popular—downhill races. Wengen is home to the legendary World Cup event Lauberhorn, where downhill racers reach speeds of 100 mph while descending the nearly three-mile course. Mürren is the home of the Inferno, an annual downhill race both attracting over a thousand competitors. The Inferno race course drops from the 10,059-foot Schilthorn to a valley just above Interlaken, at 2,611 feet.
